July 24, 2012 - Cleland to Start 4.5-Mile S.C. 170 Widening Project

Another piece of Bluffton Parkway opened to traffic Monday, with construction of the flyover bridge that will connect it to U.S. 278 expected to begin by the end of the year along with other projects funded in part with sales tax revenue OK’d by voters in 2006.

The penny sales tax referendum helped pay the $11.5 million 3-mile stretch between Malphrus Road and Buckingham Plantation Drive that officials say will divert about one-third of the traffic from U.S. 278 while providing alternate evacuation routes in the event of an emergency.
